Mexcaltitán is located 34 km northwest of Santiago Ixcuintla, approximately 2 hours from Tepic, following highway No. In Santiago Ixcuintla, take a boat from the La Batanga pier that will take you to the island.

If you have the opportunity, before going to Mexcaltitán, stop for a moment in Santiago Ixcuintla, one of the oldest communities in Nayarit. This town, with strong agricultural roots, as it is the first producer of blond tobacco in Mexico, has notable examples of colonial and nineteenth-century architecture, such as the Temple of the Lord of the Ascension, in a sober eclectic neoclassical style, which includes a Christ made of pasta corn stalk and a baptismal font as ornamental details, dating from the 17th century. Santiago Ixcuintla is located 67 km northwest of the city of Tepic.

If you plan to visit Mexcaltitán at some point in the year, try to do it around June 29, when the patrons of the place, San Pedro and San Pablo, are celebrated. The main activity that takes place on that date is an exciting boat race that show images of the two saints, and that compete to ensure a good shrimp fishing in the mollusk capture season if each of the saints favors one or another of the teams.
