A brief approach to some entertainment centers in the capital of Tabasco.

Tomás Garrido Canabal Park

In reality, the Garrido Canabal is much more than a park. Located in the heart of the city, on the shore of the Laguna de las Ilusiones, between Paseo Tabasco and Boulevard Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, it brings together two museums, a zoo, fountains, consultation centers, entertainment venues, children's games, function rooms and much more. Few walks on foot are as enjoyable in Villahermosa as the one that can be done here, any day in the afternoon. The main reason why the park is so pleasant is that it was designed and conceived to be a recreational place, in its entirety.

Founded in 1930 under the name of Parque Tabasco at the initiative of Mr. Tomás Garrido Canabal, it was originally built to host the livestock and commercial fair that is organized every year. Along with the kiosks for each municipality, other buildings were erected around the Laguna de las Ilusiones: the Agora, the open-air theater and the large Convention Hall.

In 1982 the fair was moved to La Choca park, with which the Tabasco park, which already bore the name of Tomás Garrido Canabal, was redesigned to be inaugurated in 1985 and resulted in a large recreation space, free of visual contamination and hearing that Tabasco people now enjoy. In the place you can row, rest, read, play sports, play ... The sculptural ensembles that adorn the roads recall the history of Tabasco and in general, the harmony of the environment favors rest. In the center is the Mirador de Las Aguilas, 50 m high and worth climbing to have a magnificent view of the entire park, the Laguna de las Ilusiones and the city.

Among other areas of cultural and social diffusion there is a large room, the Agora, an open-air forum and an annex room, used for conventions and congresses, given the advantages of isolation and the paradisiacal environment that surrounds the place. Although they are not exactly inserted, on the same grounds are the park, museum and zoo of La Venta and the Museum of Natural History.

Yumka

The Yumká Interpretation and Coexistence Center with Nature, located 15 minutes from Villahermosa, in the Dos Montes ejido, is one of the most attractive places to visit in the state. It allows you to know the Tabasco ecosystem and see the animals in freedom on the 101 hectares of land in which the sections of the jungle, savanna and lagoon are reproduced. There are interesting tours on foot, in boats and trailers, as well as birds and other animals in freedom that coexist with the visitor, who can also go to the souvenir shop and eat at the on-site cafeteria.

In 1987, the area was declared a protected natural area, so now it has legal protection, and in 1992 it received the name Yumká, which in Chontal means "elf who takes care of the jungle" or "the one who takes care of animals and plants" and the site was raised to the level of Center for Interpretation and Coexistence with Nature.

Tabasco Park

Located in the extension of Paseo Usumacinta, the new Tabasco Park was inaugurated in May 1998 as the largest and most modern of its kind in the country. Suffice it to mention, among other figures, that it has 200 stands, an open-air theater, a palenque, a dolphinarium, a 20,000 m2 lagoon, 20,000 m2 of service warehouses and more than 17,000 livestock stands, 50,000 m2 of walkways, almost 74,000 green areas and 120,000 m2 covered with asphalt.

As if that were not enough, it also houses a circus, rides, the village theater, the horror house, an area for ice shows, the open-air theater and a car fair. Of course, the best time to visit it is in the first days of May, during the cattle and commercial fair that has made the state famous.

La Pólvora Park

The “La Pólvora” lagoon is the heart of this fresh and wooded park, located south of the city of Villahermosa. It is one of the largest green areas in the city with endemic plants and fruit and ornamental trees.

With regard to services, it has walkers, cycling and athletics tracks, children's games, palapas, benches, lanterns, viewpoints and artificial waterfalls that oxygenate the calm waters of the lagoon, where trout, mojarras and pejelagartos swim. Good place to do sports, go on a picnic with the family or just spend a quiet time surrounded by the beauty of the place.
