Very close to Tenosique, almost on the border with Chiapas, is Pomoná, a Late Classic settlement.

From Tenosique, 75 kilometers away, is Highway 186 that takes us to Macuspana and Villahermosa. In Macuspana there are waterfalls and natural pools. Villahermosa, whose antiquity dates back to the late 16th century, is one of the most prosperous and beautiful cities in the southeast.

Surrounded by the Grijalva, Carrizal and Mezcalapa rivers, the capital of Tabasco combines urban development with the exuberance of foliage, which makes it different from other oil cities such as Minatitlán and Coatzacoalcos. La Venta Park Museum contains most of the archaeological heritage of that area, including the huge Olmec heads. Another important archaeological collection is kept by the Carlos Pellicer Regional Museum of Anthropology. In the city center, the Popular Culture Museum, the Government Palace, the Plaza de Armas and the Plaza Corregidora stand out.

From Villahermosa to Cárdenas there is a 58-kilometer highway that connects the two cities. 37 kilometers north of Cárdenas is Comalcalco, the westernmost of the Mayan cities, which is distinguished mainly by the use of bricks for the manufacture of temples, due to the absence of rocks in these low regions of alluvium and river sediments. 57 kilometers west of Cárdenas is the cruise to La Venta.
