Spectacular natural scenery whose 723,185 hectares make it the second largest protected natural area in our country.

In its enormous natural environment, a large number of specimens of the animal and plant kingdom coexist, which in many cases represent a true pride for Mexicans due to their rarity and exclusivity. Among them are felines such as the jaguarundi, the puma, the tigrillo, the ocelot and the jaguar. The howler monkey, the spider monkey, the tapir, the peccary, the anteater, the armadillo and the mule, white-tailed and thunderous deer also abound.

There are also some 282 species of birds, among which the chachalaca, the parakeet, several species of toucans, wild turkeys, trogons, some species of parrots, the snout, the king vulture, eagle and eagle; some 50 species of reptiles and approximately 400 of butterflies, in addition to a great wealth of plant species that include precious wood trees and some 1 600 varieties of plants that live and reproduce in a wonderful natural setting, where the jungle landscapes mix high, medium and low, with areas of low ground that flood with some ease, forming bodies of water called "akalchés" in Mayan.
