Take a trip back in time and visit the more than 200 haciendas in Tlaxcala. A journey through the essence of Mexico.

Just after the conquest, the Spanish introduced cattle to New Spain, since meat was a basic element in their diet.

In 1681 Tlaxcala already had numerous perfectly organized haciendas. Then, despite the conflicts that Independence brought with it, in 1854 there were 168, and later, during the Reformation, when civilians took possession of the clergy, the number of estates grew even more. It can be said that the Tlaxcala haciendas had their golden age at the end of the 19th century thanks, among other things, to the presence of the Mexico-Apizaco-Puebla railway.

Later, the splendor of the haciendas began to decline with the Revolution, but in the 1930s President Lázaro Cárdenas decreed the unaffection of those that are dedicated to breeding fighting bulls; Thus, thanks to this measure, today there are 40 farms occupied in this activity in Tlaxcala and 146 former farms, some of them pulqueras, which despite the passage of time continue to be one of the entity's greatest historical riches.
