Macehual Indian from Cuautitlán to whom the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared on the Tepeyac hill on four occasions.

It is believed that Juan Diego was born in 1474 and that at the time of the apparitions he was residing in Tulpetlac with his uncle Juan Bernardino, to whom the Guadalupana also appeared, healing him from a serious illness. Incredulous before the miracle, Bishop Juan de Zumárraga, asked Juan Diego for proof of the apparitions. According to the chronicle that refers to the events of Tepeyac, the Virgin ordered Juan Diego to cut some roses that had mysteriously just blossomed at the top of the hill and took them to Zumárraga in his ayate (serape de ixtle). The story relates that when Juan Diego showed the bishop the flowers, the image of the Virgin miraculously appeared, later called Guadalupe by the Spanish, printed on the ayate. Juan Diego died in 1548.
