The archaeological zone of Dzibilchaltún is located just 20 minutes from Mérida.

It is one of the most important archaeological sites in the north of the Yucatan peninsula, as it was one of the largest cities of the Classic Mayan period and was occupied from 500 BC. to the present day. It has the cenote Xlacah and the entire environment is made up of low deciduous forest —whose leaves fall when the cold or drought begins— where it is possible to admire about 200 species of birds and mammals, as well as hundreds of insects and reptiles.

A good portion of the park is populated by abundant low jungle vegetation where around a hundred species of plants have been identified that the locals use for medicinal and food purposes.

Visiting hours: Monday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

How to get: It is reached by highway No. 176 from Mérida to Conkal, and 5 km ahead is the National Park and the archaeological site.

How to enjoy it: It has a Site Museum, and tours can be made in the archaeological zone of Dzibilchaltún. Sometimes swimming is allowed in the cenote.
