Dominating a small natural elevation to the north of the city, formerly called “Cerro de la Vigía Vieja” and today “de Bellavista”, stands this beautiful building whose construction dates from the end of the 18th century.

Its strategic position supported the batteries of San Matías and San Lucas that were on the coast. A moat and an embankment surround the complex and free the entrance, which is resolved in a winding passageway that served to prevent a frontal attack from the enemy.

After the corridor, the enclosure is accessed through a door with a small drawbridge. The fort has a quadrangular plan with three garitones in the corners; in its patio are the remains of the curb of an old well. Around the patio there are some rooms and an access ramp to the roof, from where you get excellent views of the sea, the city and the remains of the old San Matías battery in the lower part, very close to the beach.

Visit: Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Avenida Francisco Morazán s / n, Campeche city.
