Coyoacán is a great place in Mexico to eat, drink and chat in cozy restaurants, cafes and breweries. We invite you to visit 10 of the best establishments in Coyo to exercise your sense of taste.

1. Oh Mayahuel

In the Plaza Jardín Centenario in the Historic Center of Coyoacán you will find this mezcalería, one of the best known and most frequented by the Mexican delegation. Mezcalerías have been imposing themselves as a concept of Mexican gastronomic culture, as places to taste cocktails based on traditional liquors of the country, while tasting typical or international dishes.

At Oh Mayahuel, whose name evokes one of the great Mexican and Mesoamerican pre-Hispanic cultures, they offer a wide variety of mezcals, including the Oh, which is the emblem of the house, and the Piñatepa Nacional, a delicious combination of alcoholic drink with pineapple juice (pineapple) and ginger.

2. The Catamaran

This seafood restaurant with the name of a sports boat with two hulls, is located in the Centennial Garden of Coyoacán. There is no better indication of good restaurant food than finding it full at peak times, and this one almost always is. But it is worth waiting a little while for a table, to taste a dish from its original recipe book. Boys love pizza, but many reject fish; a good way to get them to eat both is to order the tuna pizza from El Catamaran. Other recommended options are their ravioli prepared with different seafood, such as octopus and shrimp.

3. The Corner of Miracles

In these kitchens from Coyoacán they make real wonders with Mexican products, to turn them into contemporary dishes while preserving the spirit of national cuisine. The Quechitos are delicious grilled cheese chicharrón tacos, filled with huitlacoches or mushrooms, well washed down with guacamole. The Arrachera Enchilada is a generous cut of meat marinated in dried chilies and served over roasted nopalitos. Tuna Tóstes is a piece of fish sealed on the grill and caramelized with a mango and chipotle sauce. La Cartera Rellena is a chicken sheet stuffed with nopales, served with roasted pumpkin in the Mexican style. You can find this delicious corner in Jardín Centenario and on the main social networks.

4. The Huarache

The huarache is a typical Mexican footwear and also a traditional dish whose base is a corn and bean cake whose shape is reminiscent of the sandal. This restaurant has not been able to find a better emblem to identify the line of its cuisine, since they pride themselves on preparing the best traditional Mexican food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course, their star dish is the huaraches, which are served with meats, cheeses, vegetables and other ingredients superimposed on the cake, all washed down with a delicious sauce.

5. Cafe Coyote

The coyote is a very common mammal in Mexican fields and deserts and its howls often alert peasants and cowboys who still venture to spend the night outdoors, under the cover of a campfire and a thermos of coffee. These people generally drink a strong and simple coffee, without gastronomic pretensions; all the contrary to the espressos, cappuccinos, cold drinks and other delicacies that they prepare in Café Coyote with the most select beans from Atoyac and other Mexican coffee-growing towns. Tea lovers also have a wide variety of forms and qualities to enjoy their infusion, including green, black and white teas. The dessert menu includes creations by the chef of the house that delight for their texture and perfect understanding with the drinks. Café Coyote is in Coyoacán at Carrillo Puerto # 2.

6. Food market

An option to eat in Coyoacán on a low budget is to do it in the food market. It is a place without great pretensions in which, however, a great variety of foods is obtained, from the simplest to the somewhat elaborate. The food stalls offer tostadas, quesadillas, empanadas, tacos, barbecue, seafood, creams, pozoles, pancakes and many other dishes. It is eaten informally and in a clean environment. It opens from 10 AM.

7. The Neighborhood Brewery

It is much more than hoppy. Of course you can have your favorite beer, a margarita or any other drink, but the real hook of the place is in the way they prepare the seafood. It is located in Plaza Centenario, with a nice view of the zocalito and has a pleasant terrace. From the menu, there are excellent opinions on their fish tacos, octopus in its ink, and shrimp tostadas. For dessert, the chocolate cake is highly recommended. It is a clean, friendly and moderately priced place.

8. La Pizza Della Nonna

If you want to try the flavor of authentic pizza in Coyoacán, you must go to La Pizza Della Nonna, where they prepare it as only Italian grandmothers know how to do it. It's a relatively small place, but it's worth the wait for a table to be vacated. They prepare gourmet pizzas and crepes both sweet and savory. The mushroom crepes are very tasty and you can eat a delicious margarita pizza or a more loaded one. They also have other Italian dishes, such as 4 cheese pasta, and they ship food to go.

9. Echoes of the World

As its name indicates, it is a multifaceted restaurant, located on Calle Higuera, behind the temple of San Juan Bautista. Its main distinctive is its naturist and artisanal approach in the preparation of the food and beverages that they serve. They have vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus, including grilled vegetables, lasagna, soups, salads, hamburgers, chicken, fish and seafood. The bread is super fresh, since they have their own artisan bakery and offer a wide variety of hot and cold drinks, highlighting their mix of red fruits. They also have a gourmet shop, where you can find dressings, jams, coffee and other delicacies.

10. The Ice Cream House

We invite you to close with an ice cream. This sweet house located on Calle Centenario de Coyoacán mixes traditional flavors with more modern ones. They have a great variety of ice creams and popsicles of different flavors, from the classics strawberry, vanilla, chocolate mint and coffee, to special creations, such as the crazy kiss, prepared with a combination of chocolates; and tequila ice cream, to which they convey a slight flavor of the Mexican national drink, without exaggeration.
