The best time to practice this sport in any type of dunes except those close to the sea is in autumn and winter, since in the summer the heat can exceed 45ºC; At any time of the year it is advisable to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, comfortable shoes, a cap or hat, a shirt and pants; the best time to practice, without a doubt, is in the morning and in the afternoon, when the heat has dropped and the temperature is more comfortable.
The Samalayuca dunes were part of an ancient lake at the end of the last ice age, millions of years ago. They are considered one of the largest and most beautiful in our country. The approximate territorial area is 150 km2. Today there is a very varied and exotic flora and fauna.
This wonderful place among its fauna has: armadillos, trail runners, hares, hawks, various creeping birds, buzzards, turtles, beetles and spiders; In general, some of these animals, during the day, remain under the sand to keep cool, taking advantage of the contrasting temperature offered by the sand that is below, since the surface impacted by the sun, makes it seem like an inhospitable ecosystem.
Most of the animal activity takes place during the night, hunting or water catchment time, thanks to the dawn breeze, like many of the cacti and bushes in this area. The flora consists of a great variety of cacti, huizaches and bushes, which have sophisticated ways of life; each one uses different mechanisms to obtain water and for their very special competition between each of the species found on the perimeters of the dunes.
