Decreeed as a reserve in February 2000, this enormous estuary of about 20 km in length flows into the portion of the sea corresponding to Campeche. The protected area of ​​the reserve covers an area of ​​59,139 ha. To visit the estuary it is advisable to do it by boat and go to the extreme north, where there is a considerable population of pink flamingos. In the estuary there are species such as the swamp crocodile and about 95 species of resident birds and 75 of migratory ones, such as herons, ducks and the ocellated turkey.

It covers the municipalities of Celestún and Maxcanú in the state of Yucatán and Calkiní de Campeche. Approximately 39.82 percent of this reserve is in Campeche territory.

Location: In Celestún, 87 km west of Umán on state highway no. 25.
