When I was very little I liked drawing and had a great inclination for the plastic arts; I liked taking plasticine and modeling it and carving soft woods with the razor, making boats or little animals.

Architecture is for me one of the great arts that houses others, houses painting, sculpture, music. When I started to build my first houses, I realized that they needed accessories, and then I dedicated myself to designing everything that a house has: sculptures, paintings, furniture and even the garden. I did it myself because I saw that I had the capacity, and so I dedicated myself to making the whole house.
My first important work was the house of Gloria Guiness in Acapulco, which started the new way of being of the sea houses. I did not invent that architecture, architecture is not invented, it is a composition. There is the palapa, the elements, the tradition, there is the Mexican way of being, and with that I compose.
In my most recent exhibition I am sharing the credits with many artisans, I am giving them a new impetus to evolve and use their talent. I give them an opportunity supporting them with new designs and with the guarantee that I buy their work.
To this last exhibition, which is called Fantastic Zoology, I put a subtitle that I really like, which says “Made in Jalisco”. With this I would like to pose a challenge for another person from another state to do the same and say: "Well, if this is done in Jalisco, this is done in Guerrero", and thus a new sense of popular art would emerge and they would be given work to many people. That is my position at this moment, and as the sign that synthesizes this exhibition says: "My great achievement would be to bequeath and remain within Mexican popular art."
