In the caves there are thousands of species that, over the years, have developed adaptations in their bodies to survive the dark world of caves and grottos in Mexico. Discover them!

The underground geography of Mexico also has its own particular fauna. These are species that after hundreds and even thousands of years of living in the underground environments, of absolute darkness, develop adaptations to it, such as the loss of the eyes, depigmentation, growth of organs to guide themselves, sounding and others.

There are several thousand species that have been recorded for the caves of Mexico, and of them several hundred are endemic, that is, they are not found anywhere else in the world. Insects, arachnids, scorpions, mollusks, fish, bats, among the class of animals that have made caves their permanent habitat.

All these species that develop their life cycle in a cave environment are known as troglobes.
