The magic of Disney parks entertains millions of people every year, since the genius of their creator, Walt Disney, began to conceive them in the middle of the 20th century.

This is the definitive guide to Los Angeles Disneyland, one of the largest entertainment areas in the world that is home to Disneyland Park, in Anaheim, the iconic place where the legend of Disney parks began in 1955.

Disneyland Resort

The Disney complex, Anaheim, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, is called Disneyland Resort and is made up of 2 theme parks, 3 Disney hotels and the Downtown Disney District.

The 2 parks are Disneyland Park, the oldest of the famous entertainment company opened in 1955 and Disney California Adventure Park (DCA), opened in 2001.

The 3 hotels are Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Disney Paradise Pier Hotel and Disneyland Hotel. The first is very close to the park entrance directly connected to DCA, while the others were built a little further away.

Downtown Disney District is a restaurant, shopping and entertainment district, on the esplanade between the 2 parks.

The entire Disneyland Resort complex is walkable without the need for motorized transportation. Considering its size and depending on the origin and destination, some walks will last more than 30 minutes.

Disneyland park

Disneyland Park, from the famous Sleeping Beauty Castle, is the original park and first magical kingdom conceived by Walt Disney, which since 1955 paved the way for the construction of other theme parks around the world.

It represents the "old" Disney school, with a lot of history and fairy tale games.

Main Street feels like a walk back in time and throughout the park there are nostalgic elements and enough attractions to occupy several days.

Disneyland Park was the only park that Walt Disney walked through and was actively involved in its development. Its 8 areas or thematic lands are:

  1. Main Street, U.S.A .;
  2. Adventureland;
  3. Critter Country;
  4. Fantasyland;
  5. Frontierland;
  6. Tomorrowland;
  7. Mickey’s Toontown;
  8. New Orleans Square.

Disney California Adventure Park

DCA is the second Disneyland Resort theme park, a newer and character-centric one. It is across from Disneyland Park with some California-inspired attractions, the "Golden State."

Buena Vista Street is a tribute to Burbank Street where the historic address of The Walt Disney Company is located.

The attractions at Disney California Adventure Park, opened in 2001, are for the whole family, although some are scary, so it's best to do your research before queuing. It had a remodel and was reopened in 2012. Its thematic areas are:

  • Buena Vista Street;
  • Cars Land;
  • Pixar Pier;
  • Pacific Wharf;
  • Grizzly Peak;
  • Hollywood Land;
  • Paradise Gardens Park.

With the train you will avoid traffic jams while enjoying a trip through Southern California.

Its modern rooms are inspired by the classic Disneyland Park era, while its themed pools with slides and its Mickey Spa and Minnie Spa hot tubs provide both exhilarating and relaxing experiences.

The Steakhouse 55 restaurant serves prime cuts of meat, fish and seafood in a classic and romantic setting.

Other hotels near Disneyland Resort

Near Los Angeles Disneyland there are excellent hotels to settle in and comfortably enjoy the park's attractions. They are outside the Disney complex with lower prices than official establishments.

These hotels include SunCoast Park Hotel Anaheim, Cambria Hotel & Suites Anaheim Resort, and Springhill Suites Anaheim Maingate.

When to visit Disneyland Resort

The Disney parks of Anaheim are very visited, so before visiting them it is convenient to know some variables such as the season of the year, the opening of new attractions, discounts, operating hours, special events and the programming of activities in the Center Anaheim Convention Center.

The weather is an ally. Anaheim is a city with an average temperature of 18 ° C, with moderate winters and summers.

Rainfall is scarce, reaching only 319 mm per year, which is almost half of what it rains in Mexico City (625 mm per year).

On the Internet there are free tools that forecast the level of occupation of the parks, considering the factors mentioned above.

The months with the most public are from June to mid-September and from mid-November to the end of the year.

Although there is less influx of visitors in the rest of the calendar, on those dates the parks shorten hours and take the opportunity to repair or renovate attractions.

From Monday to Thursday there are fewer people than from Friday to Sunday, while on holidays the visit increases.

Food at Disneyland Resort

Food is half the fun at the Disneyland Resort. Both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park have excellent restaurants and hotels, whose food service has an exquisite variety of gastronomic specialties.

The average Los Angeles Disneyland visitor eats breakfast at the hotel, lunch at counter service, and dinner at table service, adding a mid-morning or afternoon snack in the parks.

The stereotype that all Disney food is junk doesn't hold up. Disney has both budget food and fine dining.

On the web, there are selections with the best restaurants in each category, as well as places with buffets with Disney characters.

Disneyland Park has great options including The Plaza Inn, Jolly Holiday Bakery, Blue Bayou, and Hungry Bear Restaurant.

Compared to Disneyland Park, California Adventure is a bit more daring on food, with Asian options and more alcohol.

At the Disneyland Resort there are great places to have a few drinks, like Trader Sam’s, GCH Craftsman Bar, Lamplight Lounge and Carthay Circle Restaurant.

Tickets to Los Angeles Disneyland

How much does the entrance to Disney California cost? It will depend on the duration (number of days) of the ticket and if it gives access to one or the 2 parks.

It is possible to buy both an admission ticket to one of the 2 parks per day, and enjoy the 2 Disneyland Resort parks on the same day.

Prices will vary depending on the duration of the ticket. If it is for a single day, the ticket that gives access to the 2 parks costs between 104 and 154 USD (prices for April 2020), depending on the day of the month.

The 2, 3, 4 and 5 day tickets save money on the daily unit price, which ranges from USD 117.5 per day (2 day ticket) to USD 72 per day (5 day ticket).

You can save by bundling accommodation and park tickets in a package, especially in cases of offers of a third or fourth free night of accommodation.

Itineraries at Disneyland Resort

The two Disneyland Resort parks have 89 attractions and on an average day you can visit up to 10, which means that you will need at least 9 days to enjoy them all.

Either for money, time or both, not all visitors can stay more than a week at the Disneyland Resort, so an itinerary (found on the Internet) is needed to see the funniest attractions.
