If you have ever dreamed of finding yourself in the lush tropical jungle, in a small cabin facing a beautiful lagoon, this is the ideal place, just 15 minutes from the town of Catemaco.
This ecological reserve, in addition to promoting community and ecological development projects, invites you to take long walks among its huge trees and diverse vegetation; observation of animals in the wild; go canoeing on the lagoon, or simply let yourself be carried away by the environment and rest.
Narrow gaps allow long journeys from the lagoon through this Olmec land of the jaguar man, where the great primitive civilization of Mesoamerica flourished.
The tour begins with a rustic suspension bridge that crosses a mineral water spring, the mud from the bottom is used for the body, it is therapeutic. Around the majestic red trees, the amates and the mulattos that are considered medicinal are imposed; A gap leads to the stone wall of the goddess Cihuacóatl or "double serpent woman", opposite is the oven to heat the volcanic stones or tezontle. On one side, several megaliths form a Solar System, at the center the Sun, around: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, four others represent the cardinal points. This celestial map shows the knowledge that pre-Hispanic ancestors had about astronomy.
Further on are other huge stone monuments that look like tombs, they represent the death of the jaguar or the rebirth of Tláloc, these basaltic prisms were brought from the Los Tuxtlas region. In the distance a replica of a jaguar mask is located in "La Venta", Tabasco. To one side is an open-air theater, where there are usually activities on weekends. During the tour you can see crocodiles, monkeys, toucans, chachalacas, armadillos, and with a little luck, a parrot, owl and the odd snake.
In front of the lagoon the kayaks await those who decide to take a walk and visit some of the islands. After the trip, it is recommended to cool off in the spring and apply the mineral mud baths with its moisturizing lotion prepared with herbs from the region.
The restaurant, like the other buildings in the place, is rustic: made of wood, palm and bamboo, with a pleasant atmosphere, good food and magnificent views.
Nanciyaga also has clay sculpture and pottery workshops with pre-Hispanic techniques, and eventually there are workshops for making drums. Here you can have an amazing encounter with nature and with yourself. It is a delight for the senses and the spirit, but above all it is an encounter with the world of the Olmecs, simply the mother culture.
