Chevé Caves

A small plain surrounded by coniferous vegetation serves as a prelude to the entrance of these caves. In the first explorations at the site, carried out in 1986, only 23.5 km of underground passages were discovered. Inside there are very deep vertical drops and throws, so they are recommended only for experts with adequate equipment.

These caves are located 138 km north of Oaxaca. 35 km along highway no. 190 to San Francisco Telixtlahuaca. There take the road that leads to the town of Concepción Pápalo.

Apoala caves

They consist of two large galleries and a lagoon whose depth is unknown until now. In both cavities there are beautiful natural formations of stalactites and stalagmites. According to those who have explored the place, it is advisable to do it only with the appropriate equipment, and it is wise to request a guide in the town of Apoala.

It is located 50 km northeast of Nochixtlán.

Grottos of San Sebastián

Surrounded by a beautiful landscape is this cave system with several branches, one of which has been explored. It can be visited with a specialized guide that you will find on the site. The route covers about 450 or 500 m, through five rooms of different heights, where there are impressive limestone formations. In the park there is a spring that has led to the growth of vegetation that gives the environment a beautiful panoramic view.

It is located 84 km from Oaxaca, on highway no. 175. Ahead of San Bartolo Coyotepec take highway no. 131 to Sola de Vega, and at El Vado turn off towards San Sebastián de las Grutas.

Lazaro Cardenas Grottoes

Located very close to the town of Santo Domingo Petapa, these caves are known in the region for their abundant variety of stalactite and stalagmite formations. To visit them it is recommended to hire a guide in the town.

They are located 24 km southwest of Matías Romero, along highway no. 185 to Juchitán.
