Always surprising, Chiapas is one of the most distinguished and privileged states in the country, due to the large number of natural beauties it has.

One of these beauties is: La Encrucijada, a reserve located along the Pacific coastline, which includes the municipalities of Mazatán, Huixtla, Villa Comaltitlán, Acapetahua, Mapstepec and Pijijiapan, declared a Protected Area on June 6, 1995 .

It has an area of ​​144,868 hectares of ejidal, communal, private and national lands. And since the date of its Decree, it has been dedicated to the conservation and management of ecosystems of enormous ecological importance and great economic potential. The abundance of mangroves in coastal areas stands out, as well as channels and flooded and seasonally flooded lands.

La Encrucijada is part of the Manglar Zaragoza Natural Park, the heat is humid and exceeds 37ºc in the shade. In this territory there are no notable visual guides, since La Encrucijada is not a tourist site and access is only allowed to people who have a permit issued by the Institute of Natural History, based in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. It is also worth mentioning that this area lacks all kinds of services, fresh water is scarce and the possibility of getting food is almost nil.

As for the route, it is advisable to do it by boat from the "Las Garzas" pier, which will take you through several estuaries densely populated by huge mangroves and where you can mainly observe resident and migratory water birds, such as ducks, pelicans, cormorants. , herons and the famous osprey.

On the islets in this reserve it is also possible to see some specimens of spider monkeys, night monkeys and ocelots; At the end of the route, an immense lagoon emerges from where a small island known as La Palma or Las Palmas emerges, where about one hundred families dedicated to fishing are housed, who, in the midst of the great mother nature, already have a current electricity generated by a small local plant, the only object created by the hands of modern man ...
