Framed by the Sierra de San Martín, in the state of Veracruz, is the Catemaco Lagoon, a tourist destination that draws the attention of Mexicans and foreigners. With an area close to 108km2 and in whose waters several islets stand out, this site has a mysticism difficult to match: huge bushy trees with gigantic lianas, tree ferns several meters long, countless orchids and all kinds of tropical plants border its banks. , making the whole a true paradise.

The obligatory stops when you visit Catemaco are: Monkey Island, a place that has served for several years as an experimental field for the reproduction of macaques, under the care of the UNAM Biological Station; the Agaltepec Island and the Island of the Herons.

Consider wearing a raincoat, as the region rains for much of the year.

If you like to walk, we recommend visiting some of the tobacco or coffee growing plants, located in the surroundings of the place.

How to get?

If you come from Veracruz, take highway no. 180 towards Alvarado, to later pass through the cities of Lerdo de Tejada, Ángel R. Cabada, Santiago Tuxtla and San Andrés Tuxtla. It is a journey of approximately two and a half hours.
