Prestigious journalist and chronicler of the city of Saltillo, Armando Fuentes Aguirre, also known as “Catón”, is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and versatile characters in Coahuila.

He writes every day of the week, 365 days a year (with the exception of leap years, in which he writes 366 days) four columns, which are published in 156 national and international newspapers. When we point out the contrast that exists between the columns he writes for the newspapers Reforma and El Norte, entitled "De politics y cosas peores" and "Mirador", he confesses that some reader, unaware that "Catón" and Armando Fuentes Aguirre, are the same person, and disapproving of the color of his jokes in his political column, suggests that he follow the example of the author of “Mirador”, his column neighbor.

Kind host and excellent conversationalist, Don Armando welcomes us, together with María de la Luz, “Lulú”, his wife, at his house in Saltillo, and entertains us with a series of anecdotes brimming with good humor and mischief on the most varied topics , such as the history of Mexico, national political events, daily life or changes in your city, as well as its many activities and family life.

In addition to writing his daily columns, whose jokes and stories make thousands of readers laugh and reflect, Don Armando has a radio station, Radio Concert, the first cultural station in Mexico that belongs and is supported by an individual. Among the various programs that it transmits, the one that dedicates, for a month, to recognize a person who has contributed some special benefit to their city; the news program that broadcasts only good news, and the one that deals with rescuing rare recordings, like that of tangos sung by a certain “Juan Tenorio”.

A subject of great interest to Don Armando is that of the history of Mexico, to which he has already dedicated a series of newspaper articles that, referring to characters such as Cortés, Iturbide and Porfirio Díaz, will appear published in book form under the title of La otra Mexico history. Version of the defeated.

Finally, the teacher “Cato” talks about the most important aspect of his life: his family. For him, his wife Lulú represents, in addition to being an excellent companion, a formidable work team, since she takes care, he tells us, of all the steps necessary for his articles to see the light, so he only has what easier, write. As for his children, he says that he has “two coffees and one dinner”, since when he arrives at his children's house, they offer him a coffee, while at his daughter's they invite him to dinner. Immediately, Don Armando brings his grandchildren into the conversation, pointing out that if he had known, he would have had the grandchildren earlier than the children.
