The first stone of this majestic theater was laid in 1855 under the mandate of Santos Degollado in 1856. Today it continues to impress those who visit Guadalajara.

The Throat cut theatre opened its doors to the public on the night of Thursday, September 13, 1866 with the opera Lucia of Lammermoor, by Gaetano Donizetti, performed by soprano Ángela Peralta. The building has changed its appearance over many years, and today it boasts a beautiful portico that had been left unfinished during its first inauguration.

The name of the architect who built it is Jacobo Galvez.

In the neoclassical style theater, the portico, with a Corinthian colonnade, and the paintings made in its interior by Jacobo Gálvez and Gerardo Suárez in 1861 and that refer to the Divine Comedy. On its facade the figure of Apollo and his nine muses is carved in stone.

The venue for high-quality cultural events, characters such as Plácido Domingo, Marcel Marceau, Juan Gabriel and Virginia Fábregas have set foot on its stage.

It is the current headquarters of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) and has a capacity for 1,027 spectators.
