This mission was built by Fray Junípero Serra between 1751 and 1758, being the first one built by the Franciscans in their evangelizing task in the lands of Queretans.

Its façade is in the baroque stipe style, completely covered with dense foliage, vegetable guides, pomegranates, flowers and leaves, made of mortar with a decided popular touch. The iconography is totally in the Marian sense, since it places in the second body the virgins of Guadalupe and del Pilar, which is related to Señor Santiago, since it was she who appeared to him on his pilgrimage to Spain.

In the first body the role of Saint Dominic and Saint Francis is reaffirmed as the new pillars of the Catholic Church and they appear in their niches on each side of the door, while the small sculptures of Saint Peter and Saint Paul can be seen within the flared of the door. On this one can see a small shield of the five wounds and immediately the emblem of the crossed arms, both Franciscans.

The choir window is also surprising for the mortar curtains supported by angels, and a little higher up there is a niche that once housed the image of Señor Santiago, now replaced by a clock. Inside, the temple has a Latin cross plan with a chapel attached to its left side; its decoration, very austere, is neoclassical in style.
