Xochimilco is one of the capital's favorite places to hike, especially on Sundays, a must-see that you should know on your way through the Federal District.

Located southeast of the Federal District, Xochimilco "Place of flowers", has an attraction that has made it internationally famous for being unique in the world: the chinampas, an ancient and very productive agricultural technique used by the Xochimilcas since pre-Hispanic times It consists of artificial islets created on the lake by superimposing layers of trunks, earth, mud and roots secured by lianas and on the banks of which live hollow stakes are planted which, when developing their roots, fix the chinampas. Its distribution has formed channels that are used as transit routes to market the flowers, legumes and vegetables grown there. Currently there are 176 km of canals, of which 14 of them are tourist and can be traveled in boats that the locals decorate with flower arrangements of singular beauty. Along the way you can enjoy the charm of the vendors who glide in their small canoes offering all kinds of snacks and other boats with mariachi or marimba that enliven the tour.

Very close to here is the Xochimilco Ecological Park, a place designed for family enjoyment. It was inaugurated in 1993 with an approximate area of 1,737 hectares and is one of the most ambitious ecological recovery developments. The nursery, which has modern and extensive facilities, is the largest in Latin America, here the interested visitor can acquire a rich variety of flowers at affordable prices.

The park is perfect for sports, and if you want to row, you can rent boats; It is also possible to rent quadricycles, ride a bicycle, run or simply go on a picnic and organize games and competitions among the attendees. The attractions of the park include a small museum and a train, which with an integrated recording, travels through the area as a guided tour.
