Around the town of Angangueo is one of the most beautiful and impressive parks in the state of Michoacán.
In it there are several wooded areas, natural refuge of the Monarch Butterfly, protected by the decree of October 9, 1986, with an area of 16,110 hectares. These little animals or lepidoptera, as scientists call them, make a journey of more than 4,000 km from regions of southern Canada and northern United States, to reach these lands by the end of October where they will complete their reproductive cycle. Later they will return to their place of origin in mid-April.
One of the controlled accesses for tourism is the town of Ocampo, 8 km southwest of Angangueo, 28 km north of the city of Zitácuaro, along highway 15. Deviation to the right at km 8, heading to Ocampo.
