We present you the biography of the General (and president of the country on two occasions) who bravely defended the facilities of the Churubusco Convent during the North American Intervention in 1847.

Outstanding military man, acting president of Mexico on two occasions and brave defender of the country during the North American Intervention (1847), Pedro Maria Anaya He was born in Huichapan, Hidalgo, in 1794.

From a Creole (and wealthy) family, he joined the royalist army at the age of 16, but joined the insurgent cause after the signing of the Iguala Plan. He reached the rank of general in 1833 and later served as Minister of War and Navy.

Few know that Anaya temporarily assumed the presidency of the country on two occasions - between 1847 and 1848-. During the war of American invasion it defended the facilities of the Churubusco Convent (August 1847). Once this bastion was taken, General Anaya was taken prisoner and, when questioned by the North American General Twiggs about the place where the ammunition was stored (park), Anaya replied: "If we had a park, you would not be here," an assertion that It has gone down in history as a great episode of bravery.

Upon signing the armistice, Anaya was released and once again occupied the War Ministry. The Hidalgo military man died in Mexico City in 1854.
