Ignacio Comonfort, son of French parents, was born on March 12, 1812 in Amozoc, Puebla and died on November 13, 1863.

He held important positions from a very young age, he administered the Acapulco Customs in 1854, showing himself to be a "moderate" adept of the liberals. He is the main promoter of the Ayutla Plan (1854), who does not know Santa Anna. He founded the National Guards to fight it in central and northern Mexico. In October 1855 he was appointed substitute president and a little later constitutional president, a position he held for only a few months.

Abandoned by his troops and criticized by liberals and conservatives, he gave a coup despite having sworn the Constitution of 1857. In January 1858 he left for Veracruz from where he embarked for the United States. He returns to Mexico at the request of Benito Juárez to fight the French and is appointed General in Chief of the Mexican Army. He died during an ambush near Celaya (Gto.) In 1863.
