Cuyutlán means "place of coyotes" referring to the coyotes that went down to the beach in search of turtle nests. It is one of the most typical beaches visited by the people of Colima.

4 km southwest of the town, heading to El Paraíso, there is a turtle camp that is commendably dedicated to the study, protection and conservation of three important species of sea turtles that come to the coast of Colima to spawn. The programs developed by biologists in this center are open to the participation of the public, mainly children and young people, who assure that it is a memorable experience to save the life of a small turtle, helping it to reach the ocean after it is born.
