Yucatan has numerous natural beauties that, in many cases, can be considered unique.

To begin with, thanks to its geographical location, we can find a rich set of attractions that include a wide coastline, cenotes, caves, exuberant vegetation and a unique fauna.

The absence of mountains allows the view to freely roam large expanses of the lowland jungle. The sea is always close to any town, because the state has hundreds of kilometers of coastline, in which numerous ports with euphonic names in Mayan (Chicxulub, Chelem, Telchac, etc.) or in Spanish (Río Lagartos, San Crisanto, Progreso) offer wide and warm strips of sand and a sea of calm waves in which we can share the spaces with various species of seabirds.

The Yucatan Sea is a limpid sea, with a temperate temperature and with beaches that offer all services. Some coastal areas have the nature of ecological reserves and are therefore protected by federal law. Among them are those of Celestún and Río Lagartos, where it is possible to take a short boat trip to observe the flamingos in their natural habitat from a safe distance. The Yucatan Sea can be enjoyed in multiple ways: bathing in its friendly waters, lying in the sun on the sand or admiring it from an inn or restaurant while enjoying the special Yucatecan food. As if that weren't enough, an amalgam of colors spills over into the ocean sunrises and twilights. At night, the contemplation of the starry sky under a refreshing breeze can awaken our deepest imaginations.

In Yucatan the depths under the ground abound in the form of cenotes and caves. Of the first, we find at least one near or within almost all populations. Depending on their depth and their own abilities as swimmers, one can immerse themselves in its waters and enjoy the wonderful colors and reflections that the sun causes at different times of the day. Some cenotes are covered, others have spaces through which light filters through. and others are totally open; several of them are suitable for cave diving.

The caves –such as those of Loltún and Calcehtok–, with their upholstered galleries of imposing stalactites and stalagmites, offer a journey full of surprises, and whose interest increases when we listen to the ingenious explanations of the local guides.

In botanical matters, we see striking trees everywhere: flamboyants, golden shower, palm trees. A small park, La Ermita, in Mérida, lets us know a good number of varieties. Other ecological parks are in the same city: they are safe places where harmless species of birds, mammals and small reptiles roam with us with total naturalness. The zoological parks of El Centenario (Mérida) and La Reina (Tizimín), as well as the Cuxtal ecological reserve, are of special importance.
