Located in the center of the country, Michoacán has a splendid color of natural beauties framed by a favorable climate, warm on the coasts and cool in the central areas. This unusual conjunction of attractions has been divided into four routes:

Classic or lake route

It includes Lake Pátzcuaro with its islands; the towns of Cuitzeo, Zirahuén and Tacámbaro; waterfalls such as La Tzaráracua, which is a fall of almost 60 m that, surrounded by lush vegetation, for centuries has carved its own canyon; and volcanoes such as Paricutín, whose eruption in 1942 buried the old town of San Juan Parangaricutiro, today a rocky area from which the towers of a church stand out.

Eastern route

It combines four elements: health, rest, culture and fun. It has beautiful landscapes, mountains, hot springs, spas and the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. Mountains covered with conifers and fruit orchards frame the natural environment of some of its cities, such as Zitácuaro and Angangueo. In different dams in the surroundings you can practice fishing, camping and water sports. Other attractions are Azufres, los Ajolotes, Laguna Larga and the sulphurous waters of San José Purúa.

Northeast route

With forests and mountains, it has aquatic landscapes that accentuate the charm that begins in Zamora, where the Curutarán hill is, a place with cave paintings. An impressive geyser and a spa are the main attraction of Ixtlán de los Hervores. In Tangancícuaro, Lake Camécuaro is optimal for family recreation; and in Zacapu you can enjoy a placid lagoon located inside a crater; nearby there are many spas and springs like Chilchota, Jacona and Orandino; and in Los Reyes you start towards the magnificent Chorros del Varal waterfalls. Cojumatlán de Regules, framed by one end of Lake Chapala, offers an idyllic panorama of white or borregon pelicans.

Apatzingán-Costa Route

Lázaro Cárdenas is the gateway, already on the Apatzingán-Costa route, to the heavenly Michoacan coast. A horizon of the sea with rocky and sandy landscapes begins in Playa Azul with an extensive coastline with many beaches, coves and bays. To rest and practice water sports there is the most beautiful set of sandy beaches with capricious cliffs: Maruata Bay, Bucerías Lighthouse, San Juan Alima, Boca de Apiza, Caleta de Campos, Playón de Nexapa and Pichilinguillo. There are also protected areas, including the Eduardo Ruiz Natural Park, the Cupatitzio Canyon, the Pico de Tancítaro, the Cerro de Garnica and the aforementioned Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.

Its magnificent natural gifts, which in harmony combine magical landscapes and privileged natural beauties, make Michoacán a true paradise for adventure.
