Among the first places that you can visit if you are looking to practice some spelology is the Gruta de las Canicas, located near Teapa, in which there are small spheres made of layers of calcite. To visit this place it is necessary to contact a specialized guide and bring the appropriate equipment.

Another set of caves of spectacular dimensions are the Grutas de Coconá, a gallery almost a kilometer long where you can see surprising calcite formations, emerald-colored water wells, vaults covered with stalactites and colored lights that illuminate the interior. of these caverns. To get to know it, in addition to a guide, you will need basic exploration equipment, such as a helmet, headlamp, boots and overalls.

The Sierra also has spaces where there are unprecedented ecotourism alternatives: the Yu-Balcah Ecotourism Center, located 60 kilometers from Villahermosa is, in addition to a protected natural area and ecological reserve, a region of great ecological value due to its condition of "island of natural vegetation ”, that is, it provides oxygen. Here you can enjoy ecotourism and adventure sports activities such as rappelling, sport climbing, horseback riding, cycling, camping, hiking, kayaking and canopy tours.

The Villa Luz Ecological Reserve has sulfurous springs, cave waterfalls and exuberant vegetation, as well as a museum that was the home of the former governor Tomás Garrido Canabal, which shows archaeological pieces of Zoque origin, typical crafts and a consultation room. In this reserve you can also visit the “Cueva de las Sardinas Ciegas”, in which a dance of pre-Hispanic origin called the “Pesca de la Sardina” is organized at Easter.

Near Tapijulapa, one of the most beautiful towns in the state, you will find another ecotourism development called Kolem-Jaá, in which its species of precious woods and cocoa trees stand out, as well as endemic fauna such as the white-tailed deer. Currently the reserve has 20 rooms and a tented area where more than 150 people can camp.

It has natural pools, trails, a 480 m long and 35 high canopy, a 180 m zip line and stables. In its facilities you can practice rappelling, mountain biking and kayaking.
