ARRICILLO OR EQUISETO. Equisetum byemale Linnaeus. Family: Esquisetaceae. It is a species that is used in various states in the center and south of the country, mainly for kidney diseases, urinary tract and kidney inflammation and bad urine. The treatment consists of boiling the Horsetail with the golden brown and corn hair or the cooking with orange blossom and banana flowers, taken as water for use. It is a good remedy for ulcers, gastritis, vomiting and stomach pain, for this the whole plant is used in cooking. It is also used as a tea to promote fertility by mixing it with arnica, damiana, cuachalalate and cancerine. On the other hand, the only historical reports of its uses as an antiblenorrheic and a diuretic date back to the middle of this century. This plant is located in Chiapas, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosí and Veracruz.

Herbaceous up to 2 m tall, with soft, hollow cylindrical stems, with spaced rings on the trunk from which the leaves emerge. Its fruits are shaped like cones. It is found in semi-warm, semi-dry, dry and temperate climates. It grows from flooded areas to the banks of streams, and is associated with the tropical sub-deciduous forest, evergreen; mesophilic mountain forests, oak and pine.
