The origins of Amecameca are remembered as a land of farmers and merchants; also for having been one of the few communities to rise up and run to the Spanish. After colonization, the polytechnic school was created here, from which priests, watchmakers, painters, printers and bookbinders emerged; In the Parroquia de la Asunción, the first Catholic printing press was established, which united the Catholic and cultural institution. On November 14, 1861, the government of the State of Mexico granted it the title of town although it was not the head of the district, but its commercial, political and cultural importance earned it the new appointment.

This land is mainly characterized by its pottery, the artisans of the area create pots, vases, vases and other clay objects that, when combined with the work of artisans from other neighboring municipalities, create a mosaic of color and shapes. Do not miss the opportunity to enter its small market, we assure you that you will not leave empty-handed.

Sacromonte Sanctuary. Built on the vestiges of what were the indigenous teocallis and amoxcallis, this church and the convent were built on top of a hill, which at the time was the evangelizing school for the inhabitants of the ancient Amequemecan. Currently this temple is one of the most important in the state of Mexico. Inside there is an image of a Christ made with maize cane paste; also highlights the urn of the main altar where you can see the image of the Lord of Sacromonte. This place is an excellent viewpoint that allows you to see the town of Amecameca, its surroundings and the imposing volcanoes: Popo and Izta.

Chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe. A few steps above the Sanctuary of Sacromonte, this chapel of very old construction awaits you, in it you can appreciate its smooth facade with three lowered arches and a triangular pediment. The interior decoration is very peculiar, you will not only see a baroque altarpiece with vegetal decoration; Its atrium represents a pantheon in which you can see some ancient tombs with very well carved mausoleums.

Temple of the Virgin of the Assumption. In the Dominican style (1554-1562), on its façade you will notice with the naked eye the sculpture of the Virgin of the Assumption surrounded at her feet by the faces of angels; while on the window ledge its decoration in the form of drops stands out. Inside, you are welcomed by a neoclassical altarpiece with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. No less interesting is a baroque altarpiece on the right wall with biblical images surrounded by classic Solomonic columns. The tabernacle houses two interesting works: a baroque altarpiece with the same characteristics as the previous one and another that alludes to a reed Christ. Next to the temple, still standing is the cloister with its beautiful arches on its two levels, it is made up of lowered arches carved in stone and stylized plant decoration on the capital of the columns. Fortunately, it is still possible to see remains of fresco paintings that maintain a medieval atmosphere.
