The pre-Hispanic name of Cuernavaca was Cuauhnáhuac; since then the population was extremely attractive.

It is said that the Spaniards who came with Hernán Cortés, unable to pronounce the original name of this town, Cuauhnáhuac - "on the edge of the groves", in Nahuatl, a ceremonial and commercial center of Tlahuica origin–, chose to call it Cuernavaca.

In 1397 Cuauhnáhuac was conquered by the Mexica. Acamapichtli, lord of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, seized the population in view of its rich cotton production and, above all, because it was a strategic step for his commercial caravans and for his armies. It is precisely its location, "within the short distance of a sigh", as Alfonso Reyes would once say when referring to Cuernavaca's proximity to Mexico City, which has allowed it to retain its supremacy as a point of attraction over time. . Perhaps the main wealth of Cuernavaca is its color, the result of the intense greens and the magical hues of the flowers, which seem to grow of their own free will, modifying their old physical environment.

Pre-Hispanic vestiges, old colonial buildings and modern constructions boast of their harmonious coexistence under the intense blue of the Cuernavaca sky. Its benevolent climate invites visitors to return again and again or to permanently stop their steps to make it their home. Outstanding artists and intellectuals, scientists and film stars from all over the world come to Cuernavaca every day to “enjoy a pause of freedom and relaxation”, just 70 kilometers from the largest city in Latin America.

Cuernavaca's main square is the starting point to embark on a journey full of surprises that the visitor will hardly forget, eager to discover the treasure of its streets, its corners and the majesty of its landscape.
