This property includes 244 islands and islets and coastal areas that extend from the north in the Colorado River Delta to 270 kilometers southeast of the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, the following being specified:

The total extension of the nine protected areas included is 1,838,012 hectares. of which 25% are terrestrial and 75% are marine areas, representing 5% of the total area of ​​the Gulf of California.

The territory presents a habitat gradient ranging from temperate wetlands in the north to tropical environments in the south. 181 species of birds and 695 species of vascular plants have been recorded, 28 of the latter are endemic to the islands or the region.

The relevance of the inscription of the site lies in the fact that it represents a unique example in which the main oceanographic processes of the planet are present and in its impressive natural beauty complemented by a very rich and diverse marine life that contains 39% of the total number of species of marine mammals in the world and a third of all cetacean species.

The diversity and abundance of marine life associated with the spectacular underwater forms and the transparency of its waters make it a paradise that was called "the aquarium of the world" by Jacques Cousteau. No other part of the world has underwater sand waterfalls like those found in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.
