We present you an approach to the life and work of this religious Jesuit, born in the Port of Veracruz, author of the famous investigation Historia Antigua de México.

Originally from the port of Veracruz (1731-1787) Francisco Javier Clavijero He entered the Jesuit seminary in Tepotzotlán (in the State of Mexico) from a very young age.

An illustrious professor, this friar is an innovator in the teaching of philosophy and literature: he acquires deep knowledge of mathematics and physical sciences. He is an outstanding polyglot who dominates numerous languages ​​including Nahuatl and Otomí; and cultivates Latin and Spanish music and letters.

When the Jesuits were expelled from New Spain in 1747, the religious was sent to Italy where he remained until his death. In Bologna he wrote the work in Spanish Ancient History of Mexico, which ranges from the description of the Anahuac valley to the surrender of the Mexica and the Cuauhtémoc prison. In his research, he analyzes in detail the social organization, religion, cultural life and customs of the indigenous people, all from a new and exhaustive point of view. His work is published for the first time in Italian in 1780; the Spanish version dates from 1824.

Clavijero is also the author of the California Ancient History, published in Venice two years after his death.
