We present to you the biography of this tireless German traveler and researcher who, at the beginning of the 19th century, dared to record and study the cultural and natural wonders of the new continent.

He was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1769. A great scholar and tireless traveler, he had a special fondness for botany, geography and mining.

In 1799, Carlos IV of Spain granted him authorization to travel through the American colonies. He toured Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru and part of the Amazon. He arrived in Acapulco in 1803, almost immediately starting several exploration tours from this port and towards Mexico City.

He visited Real del Monte, in Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Puebla and Veracruz, among other places of interest. He made some inspection trips in the Valley of Mexico and its surroundings. His documentary work is very extensive; wrote numerous works on Mexico, the most important being "Political Essay on the Kingdom of New Spain", of important scientific and historical content.

He is recognized worldwide for his promotional work on America, especially Mexico. At present, his works are important consultation tools in international scientific circles. After a long trip to Asia Minor, he settled for a long time in Paris, dying in Berlin in 1859.
