This monument occupies the place of the old parish of La Asunción, consumed by a fire around 1634 after being named a cathedral.

Construction of the new building began in 1635, and although it was partially completed in 1713, the work was completed between the years 1841 and 1844, the date on which the altars were completed and the temple was consecrated. On its façade, in a sober baroque style, the Solomonic columns of the second body stand out, the monograms of Mary at the top and the wrought iron cross; It is framed by towers of three bodies, which belong to the last construction phase of the building. The side facades are also in the Solomonic Baroque style and feature a profuse plant decoration that spreads throughout the quarry. Its interior is decorated in a style similar to Byzantine, applied at the beginning of the 20th century. On the altars there are good sculptures and paintings and on the main altar the image of the Virgin of the Assumption stands out. The choir stalls, built in the first third of the 18th century, display figures of saints and apostles finely carved in stewed wood.
