In the middle of a landscape that transports you to the tranquility of another time, Temascalcingo makes its way into one of the most extensive valleys in the north of the State of Mexico. It is a unique place for its local themes and hot springs.

TEMASCALCINGO: THE PLACE OF THE "STEAM BATHS"

It gets its name from the "temacales" or steam baths in the pre-Hispanic way. It is true that nature gave this municipality a magnificent spring of hot springs, today called "El Borbollón". Time has also given it magnificent constructions, here it is worth highlighting the beauty of the rich and important estates founded in the 19th century, one of the most recommended is that of Solís, with its natural views. We must not forget that it is an agricultural town with a temperate climate, its crops of corn, wheat and fruits such as peaches, apples and plums make it a watercolor landscape that can be traveled with all the senses. You will take a good memory if you visit it in winter, when the place is flooded with the scent of peach blossoms.

Deposits of fossils of prehistoric animals have been found in the ravines and caves, as well as cave paintings that allow estimating that the first settlers of the region date back to 8,000 years before Christ. The Tzindo and Ndareje caves are testimonies of the region that reveal the life of the men of that period.

It is distinguished by its excellent pottery production in casting techniques, turning and brush decoration; and for its incredible Mazahua textiles made on the traditional backstrap loom, such as the quesquémetls and the belts with beautiful colorful embroidery. Their stick crafts such as baskets also attract attention, there they specialize in making those used for Christmas chests, or peculiar high-temperature ceramic figures.

WALKING DOWNTOWN

Its streets take you on a quiet walk to the center of town to admire the varied crafts and contemplate the Church of San Miguel Arcángel, or enjoy the Central Garden with its traditional Corinthian-style column kiosk.

CHURCH OF SAN MIGUEL ARCÁNGEL

This splendid church was rebuilt in 1939 imitating the neoclassical style and in particular the Church of El Carmen found in Celaya, Guanajuato. Built with the pink quarry produced by the municipalities of the region, the church is an example of the painstaking work of the builders. It has a single tower and its entrance consists of atrial arches that complement its splendor, crowned by a large clock. On May 4, 1950, this church was elevated to the rank of foreign vicarage. You can appreciate its interior decorated with altarpieces made of mahogany, the work of the sculptor Fidel Enríquez Pérez. José María Velasco was born in this part of the town, who was a student of the Italian Eugenio Landesio at the renowned San Carlos School of Painting, his childhood home has been converted into a museum that bears his name, where belongings of the famous painter are exhibited. and some of his magnificent works.

JOSÉ MARÍA VELASCO CULTURAL CENTER

It is a site dedicated to the work of this magnificent Mexican landscaper whose fame has traveled the world. Among the exhibited pieces, the interesting drawings and studies that Velasco carried out on botany and biology stand out; in addition to beautiful landscapes and portraits characterized by their incomparable style and quality.

JOSÉ MARÍA VELASCO NATURAL PARK

Named in honor of the painter who immortalized the Valley of Mexico in his landscapes at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the idyllic park is located at the main entrance of the town, on a mountainside prepared so that you can admire the beautiful scenery. The facilities offer kiosks, stone tables and benches, grills, children's games and a small pool ideal for cooling off while you contemplate nature and spend time with the family. This park also has a special educational quality, as there are trails that show a great variety of the typical flora of the region, with signs that inform you about popular and scientific names.

THE BORBOLLÓN

18 kilometers from the municipal seat is the Spring of Jesus, better known as "El Borbollón", it is organized around a spring of hot springs that flows into a natural pool. Many visitors attribute healing properties to it due to its significant concentration of minerals, it is ideal to refresh the body and spirit. The municipality has several tourist attractions such as the Cascada de Pastores, the cave paintings of Sido and the Cerro de Altamirano where you will find monarch butterflies and enjoy nature.
