Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City

Stage and style: Its slow construction process (from 1573 to the beginning of the 19th century) allowed it to bring together the art of the viceroyalty, reflected in its altarpieces and paintings. The neoclassical style blends with the baroque on the façade.

It is distinguished by: The breadth of dimensions and arrangement of the ornaments on its facade.

Main riches:
• Of the 16 chapels that it contains inside, the one of Santo Cristo de las Reliquias (1615) stands out due to the large number of reliquaries contained in its altar.
• The Sacristy has on its walls four religious allegories executed by Miguel Cabrera, the most famous Baroque painter in New Spain.
• In the background, the altarpiece of the Kings takes your breath away due to its spectacular Churrigueresque style.
• The choir boasts two monumental organs and magnificent stalls.

Morelia Cathedral

Stage and style: It was built from 1660 to 1774 and the Baroque and Churrigueresque styles are combined with Doric, Ionic and Corinthian elements from the Neoclassical.

Main riches:
• The silver manifester and some candlesticks.
• The baptismal font made of silver.
• In the chapel of the Sagrada Familia there are two baroque urns that keep the remains of a couple of saints.

Puebla Cathedral

Stage and style: Its monumentality was sought to equal that of Mexico (1575-1649). The gray quarry extracted from the Cerro de Guadalupe served to build its façade, contrasting with the ornamental stone figures of villerías (another type of quarry). The main doorway, in the Renaissance style, was completed in 1664.

It is distinguished by: The pair of towers that frame its façade are 74 meters high, the highest in Mexico.

Main riches:
• Inside the main altar stands out, whose marble cypress designed by Manuel Tolsá and built between 1779 and 1818 is one of its most impressive artistic jewels.
• The choir stalls, made in the Mudejar style based on fine woods and inlays of bone and ivory.
• It displays paintings and altarpieces by great artists such as Baltasar de Echave, Cristóbal de Villalpando and Pedro García.
