We present the biography of Moctezuma Xocoyotzin, the king of the Mexica from 1502 to 1520.

Moctezuma Xocoyotzin (Hueytlatoani Motecuhzoma) was King of the Mexica from 1502 to 1520.

During the Moctezuma's mandate, the Mexica lived a boom period: his empire had been extended thanks to trade, subjecting many peoples, imposing heavy tributes on them.

On November 8, 1519, Moctezuma received Cortés with great solemnity showing him more submission than hospitality. He lodged the conqueror in the palace of Axayácatl. He was taken prisoner by Cortés himself, who held him hostage; during his captivity he ordered that great riches be delivered to Cortés.

After the massacre of the Templo Mayor and forced by Pedro de Alvarado to pacify the people and urge them to abandon the fight, Moctezuma was insulted and stoned, because of which, he would die days later.
