We present you the biography of this character, son of José María Morelos, who participated in the Texas War and later bet on bringing Maximiliano de Habsburgo to Mexico.

Juan N. (Nepomuceno) Almonte, natural son of Jose Maria Morelos, was born in the province of Valladolid in 1803.

At the beginning of Independence, he fought alongside his father and despite being still a child (barely 12 years old), he was part of the commission in charge of establishing relations with United States and get financial support for the independence movement. He stays in New Orleans, where he studies and remains until the signing of the Iguala Plan (1821). Being crowned Agustín de Iturbide As Emperor of Mexico, he returned to the United States and when it fell, he returned to our country and then was sent, almost immediately, to the city of London as charge d'affaires.

Almonte also participated in the commission to set the limits between Mexico and the United States (in 1834). And years later he took part in the Texas war, where he fell prisoner. Upon his release, President Bustamante appointed him Secretary of War and Navy and then representative of his government to the United States (1842).

Supporter of the war against the United States Almonte occupies again, in 1846, the secretary of war making some favorable changes in the army. Later he refused to sign the law of expropriation of the goods of the clergy (1857) and decided then to adhere to the Conservative Party.

Shortly afterwards, Juan N. Almonte signed the Mont-Almonte Treaty, committing to pay Spain and the Spaniards the outstanding debts in exchange for financial aid against the Liberal Party. Upon their triumph, he resides in Europe and leads the movement to offer the throne of Mexico to Maximilian of Habsburg who later gave him important positions and commissioned him to request Napoleon III the permanence of the French troops in Mexican territory.

Towards the end of his life he settled in the city Paris, until 1869, the year he died.
