Visiting these 12 places you will have a complete panoramic view of the amazing landscapes of Chiapas.
1. Sumidero Canyon
He Sumidero Canyon An imposing opening in the earth's crust was formed about 12 million years ago in the Sierra Norte de Chiapas, also gushing an impressive river, the Grijalva, the second largest in the country.
The precipices of the Sumidero Canyon have a height of up to a kilometer in some sectors and along its extension there are viewpoints to admire the majesty of this magnificent work of nature.
The Girjalva is born in the Guatemalan Sierra de los Cuchumatanes and as it passes through the canyon it is sailed by boats with tourists who will admire the richness of flora and fauna, and the breathtaking walls of the gorge.
2. El Chiflón Waterfalls
This tiered system of waterfalls is located in the Ejido San Cristobalito, with beautiful turquoise blue waters that form pools in which you can take refreshing baths.
The waterfalls are located in the mighty San Vicente River and the most spectacular is Velo de Novia, with a length of 120 meters.
On the way to the waterfalls by a rustic staircase there are viewpoints to stop to admire the landscape and take beautiful photos.
3. Sima de las Cotorras
It is an abyss 140 meters deep and 160 in diameter, located near the Chiapas community of Piedra Parada.
As its name suggests, it is home to hundreds of thousands of noisy parrots, which roam in flocks since the sun rises, searching for food and filling the space with their greenery and their constant sounds.
The chasm is frequented by athletes who are going to practice their sports of ascent and descent, and by people who are enthusiastic about nature and its most beautiful manifestations.
4. Agua Azul waterfalls
Chiapas is a land watered by beautiful waterfalls and those of Agua Azul are formed by the Tulijá River, a mighty stream of carbonated waters.
The waterfall ladder offers the eyes a beautiful blue coloration, which is produced thanks to the incidence of the sun's rays on the calcium and magnesium carbonate particles present in the water.
The Agua Azul waterfalls system is located 64 km from Palenque, so you can plan to visit them on the same walk that takes you to the famous archaeological zone.
5. Lagunas de Montebello
These lagoons are located between the municipalities of La Trinitaria and Independencia, near the border between Mexico and Guatemala.
It is a national park with an area of 6,000 hectares where the estoraque grows. This tree is the one that produces the so-called "American incense", a resin with purifying and disinfecting properties.
The waters of the lagoons have a beautiful color, ranging from green to turquoise blue and you can navigate in them in kayak and rafts.
6. Misol-Ha waterfall
It is another beautiful waterfall in Chiapas, located in the Salto de Agua municipality, near the Agua Azul Waterfalls.
The waterfall has a drop of about 30 meters and, after falling, the water forms a well in which you can cool off, surrounded by the beautiful landscape, while the sound of the waterfall serves as background music.
Due to its proximity to Agua azul, you can organize a «waterfall day».
Other nearby places of interest are the archaeological sites of Palenque and Toniná.
7. Puerto Madero Beach
Puerto Madero is also called San Benito and Puerto Chiapas. It is located on the Pacific Ocean, 27 km from the Chiapas city of Tapachula.
Apart from being an important high-altitude port, Puerto Madero has a beach area, with coconut trees on the sand, equipped with palapas and other services.
8. Las Nubes Waterfalls
The Las Nubes waterfalls they are found in the copious Santo Domingo River as it passes through the Lacandon Jungle. The Causas Verdes Las Nubes Ecotourism Center works there.

9. Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve
It is an immense natural reserve of 331 thousand hectares nestled in the middle of the Lacandon Jungle. It has intricate jungle, forests, valleys, plateaus and lots of water, provided mainly by the Usumacinta, Lacantún, Lacanjá and Jataté rivers.
The reserve contributes about 30% of the water reserves of Mexico and the biodiversity of its flora and fauna is among the richest in the country.
Lagoons such as Ojos Azules, Ocotal, Yanqui, El Suspiro, Lacanjá and Miramar are beautiful natural spaces. Endangered species such as the jaguar, the harpy eagle and the scarlet macaw live in the jungle.
10. Puerto Arista Beach
Puerto Arista is a small fishing town located on the Pacific coast of Chiapas. It has a beautiful beach, with magnificent waves for surfing.

The Tacaná Volcano is located on the border between Mexico and Guatemala and rises 4,092 meters above sea level, being the highest peak in the southeast of Mexico.
It is frequented by mountaineers, who at Easter celebrate an international meeting of fellowship, in which climbers from the two nations that share the volcano and from other Central American countries participate.
While ascending the volcano, different climatic environments occur, until reaching the summit, in which small snowfalls are not strange. The reserve is also visited by fans of camping and by observers of biodiversity.
12. The Madresal
This beautiful ecosystem of coastal wetlands and sustainable ecotourism center is located 45 km from the small Chiapas city of Tonalá.
It is an almost virgin site, rich in the fauna and flora characteristic of the wetlands near the sea. The people from the ecotourism center take you on lovely walks through the wetland and nearby sites. The beach is swell suitable for surfing.
The center has cozy cabins with a construction that harmoniously integrates them with the environment and restaurant where you can enjoy fish, shrimp, lobster and other delicacies.
