The islands of Mallorca and Menorca are Mediterranean paradises with incomparable blue beaches and calm and crystalline waters, most of them enclosed as pools between rock walls and a green forest. If you add to this the comfortable accommodation, the proximity between all the places, the ease of movement and a rich culinary art, the success of your holidays is guaranteed in the Balearic Islands. For now, we are going to show you 12 of its most spectacular coves.

1. Formentor

At 14 kilometers from the Mallorcan town of Pollensa there is an inlet called Cala Pi de la Posada and also Cala Formentor, a charming beach, with fine white sand and with the frond of pines and oaks touching the water. The place is famous for the Hotel Formentor, a favorite resting place for great personalities. If you can stay there, maybe you will have the room where John Wayne, Octavio Paz or Sir Winston Churchill used to be.

Not far away is the end of Cabo de Formentor, the northernmost point of the island of Mallorca, which the locals call the "meeting point of the winds."

2. Cala en Porter

This natural pool in Menorca stands out for its calm waters and white sand. It is located between large cliffs that temper the waves and make it an ideal place for the whole family. The place is extremely comfortable and safe, with a lifeguard and first aid station. In the restaurants on the same beach you can enjoy some specialty of Menorcan sea cuisine, such as a lobster stew. If you prefer an overasada, the typical pork sausage of the island, you can also order it.

3. Mondragó

To the southeast of the island of Mallorca, in the municipality of Santanyí, there is a highly visited natural park, the Mondragó, in which there are some coves with clear turquoise blue waters and surrounded by cliffs, pines, oaks and scrub, which they give the small inlets an idyllic atmosphere. One of the most beautiful coves is Mondragó. Just 6 kilometers away is the town of S’Alqueria Blanca, which has excellent accommodations and restaurants. The beach has good services.

4. Cala del Moro

When you drive from Palma de Mallorca in the direction of Llombards, if you go a bit distracted, you may skip the access to Cala del Moro, which is somewhat hidden. It would be a shame, as it is one of the most beautiful coves in Mallorca. It is somewhat narrow, so you have to get there early to find a place. It is an ideal place to anchor yachts and other boats. Nearby is the town of Santañy, with its cozy main square.

5. The Calobra

Getting to this cove is an adventure, through the more than 800 curves of the road, including the famous "Nudo de la Corbata". Once safe and sound in the place, you find a marvel excavated over the millennia by the Pareis torrent, opening one of the few accesses to the sea in the Sierra de Tramontana. The beautiful and narrow Mallorcan beach is nestled between high cliffs over 200 meters high. If you go in summer, maybe you can enjoy the Torrente de Pareis Concert, an open-air event in La Calobra.

6. Mitjana

This cove is in the south of the central part of Menorca, so it is easy and quick to access. Near the beach there are comfortable hotels and apartment villas, with restaurants where you can enjoy a star dish of the island, such as baked cockles or a salad with Mahón cheese, a dairy emblem of Menorca, with a controlled designation of origin. . A 20 minute walk from Mitjana is Galdana, another beautiful cove, more extensive and with a more massive influx.

7. S’Almunia

The erosion of the water on the rocky coast of Mallorca sculpted this narrow cove, which is a work of art chiseled by nature. There are still some slippery rocks at the bottom so you have to walk carefully. If you want to arrive from the sea, it is better that the pilot of the boat is an expert, but it is not a good place to anchor due to the winds of the place. It is only 9 kilometers from the town of Santanyí, where you can stop to eat a Majorcan fried, closing with an ensaimada, the typical sweet of the island.

8. Macarella and Macarelleta

They are two coves that share the same cove with clear and calm waters, separated by a short distance. The blue of the sea rivals in color with that of other inlets on the island of Mallorca. It does not have many services, so you have to be prepared. In a few minutes on foot you can go between one cove and another. Macarelleta is the smallest and is frequented by nudists.

9. Llombards

This cove was formed by the fall of the Son Amer torrent on the rocky coast. It is located near the Llombards urbanization, where some Majorcans have their beach houses. It is an appropriate place to anchor boats. One of its attractions is the viewpoint of El Puentazo (Es Pontas in Catalan), a rock in the sea that the waves have carved like a bridge. From the cove you can hike through beautiful places and nearby villages.

10. Moltó

If you want to bathe in complete comfort in a marine pool, this is the right place. Cala Moltó is not among the most frequented in Mallorca because its sandy area is very small, but in return it offers its calm crystalline waters and its atmosphere of absolute peace and beauty. In the place there is still a bunker that dates from the times of the Spanish Civil War. The area is good for bathing but not for setting boats, due to its stony bottom and changing winds.

11. Turqueta

Its name is not due to the turquoise blue of its waters, as many people believe, but it is one of the terms formed several centuries ago by the incursion of Turkish pirates in Menorca. Its landscape is typical of the Menorcan coast: beautiful bays surrounded by cliffs and pine and holm oak forests. It is suitable for anchoring boats with a maximum depth of two meters. You have to walk about 10 minutes from the parking lot.

12.Varques

On the road between Porto Cristo and Portocolom, at the end of the small town of Manacor, is this Mallorcan cove. Its clean and clear waters are perfect for you to practice your favorite aquatic entertainment. Nearby are several caves with remains of stalactites and stalagmites. And since you are in Manacor, you can take the opportunity to visit its imposing monuments, such as the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, or the nearby Cuevas de Hams, one of the great attractions of the town.

We still have many dream inlets to visit in Mallorca and Menorca. See you soon to continue the ride.
