Located 104 km from Puebla, Ciudad Serdán, it is the best starting point to access the Pico de Orizaba.

Formerly this population was called Chalchicomula, Nahuatl name that apparently means "Well in which green stones abound". According to the experts, it is the best starting point to reach the summit of Citlaltépetl, or Pico de Orizaba, entering through the town of San José Llano Grande, 12 km northeast. The surrounding landscape is charming, because the view of the volcano and the mountains on its sides are of great beauty. Towards the northwest, towards San Salvador El Seco, there are some very attractive ajalapascos.

It is located 104 km east of the city of Puebla, on highway no. 150 to Tepeaca. Deviation to the left towards Acatzingo and in San Salvador El Seco deviation to the right 31 km.
